- School-Based Crime Prevention
Schools have great potential as a locus for crime prevention. They provide regular access to students throughout
the developmental years, and perhaps the only consistent access to large numbers of the most crime-prone young
children in the early school years; they are staffed with individuals paid to help youth develop as healthy, happy,
productive citizens; and the community usually supports schools' efforts to socialize youth. Many of the
precursors of delinquent behavior are school-related and therefore likely to be amenable to change through
school-based intervention.
